When Artie finds out his brother is moving across the country with his fiancée, he wishes they'd never met—only to be visited by a fair godmother who shows him what life would be like if his wish came true.
Following the success of The Castles (2024) and Past Present Future (2025), writer and director Jonathan Pineda began pre-production on his next project, Wish You Weren’t Here. He reached out to classmate Elizabeth Woodie to help write the script, centered around the theme of “letting go of the people you love the most.” Together, they crafted a family-friendly story with a magical twist, led by the heart of it all: Artie. From the beginning, they knew Artie would be a puppet, and from that idea came a whimsical, heartfelt tale of love, loss, and laughter. The story includes fairy godmothers, old ex-lovers, and just the right amount of magic to make you laugh, cry, and reflect on the deeper message within.
Pineda and Woodie hope this film makes you feel every emotion. They invite you to look beyond the surface and discover the deeper truths within—about family, love, and the pain and beauty of letting go.
